Railway Ball Showstoppers at Grosvenor House Hotel, London
Charity Gala Dinner
Client: CL Events
DesignScene suggested and realised the colourful 'Tribute To Musical Theatre' concept for the 2010 Railway Ball, transforming London's Grosvenor House Hotel's Great Room into a full West End stage for the evening.
The production and lighting design - complete with stunningly impressive large format projections stretching the 44 ft full width of the stage - presented a perfect theatrical showcase environment for the all-action, 4 section entertainment schedule punctuating a gala dinner for 1,125 guests.
While the 'Showstoppers' talent competition was at the hub of the action, guests were also delighted to a wide selection of classic, popular and favourite all-time production hits from the world of musicals.
The technology and the overall visual design were the core aesthetics.
DesignScene's Attila Keskin imagineered the epic looking set, with the stage positioned side-on in the Great Room. An integral rolling riser accommodated the house theatrical band.
This was initially concealed upstage behind gauze screens - also forming the central area of the projection surface, and the band appeared only as silhouettes and shadows - via back and front lighting - during the production number sections and Showstoppers.
At the end of dinner, the gauze screens tracked to the sides, the rolling riser was pushed forward and an animated set ensued by top session band, The All Stars. This closed the evening's live entertainment and kicked off the after-party, complete with poker, blackjack and roulette tables set up on the balcony.
